Most parents want to take the best care as possible of their new baby. For this reason, it is common to go to the store and try to buy products that are suitable. When it comes to a variety of personal care products and other items for the baby, it’s incredible and scary when a parent discovers the ingredients included in many of those products. Many parents will be interested in discovering why they should buy natural baby products.
Why It Matters
When picking up an item from the shelf at the store just take a quick glance at the ingredients. Many have ingredients known to be linked to cancer, others have ingredients that have been linked to causing early puberty and still others have been demonstrated to disrupt certain hormones in the body. Since the time when the laws relaxed and allowed pharmaceutical companies to advertise their newest drugs on television, it has become more and more commonplace for the average person to hear about all the possible side effects of various medicines.
This has lead to side effect deafness where many adults simply don’t pay any attention to the warnings on labels. But even if an adult feels that for them it’s okay to use these products sometimes or even on a regular basis, they need to remember that a baby is still developing and so they’re even more susceptible to the side effects of these products.
Choosing Natural Baby Products
Whenever possible, it is best to stick with products that are purely organic. Make sure when using personal care products on babies that it is fragrance-free. The reason it’s so important to use products that are fragrance-free is that the government does not require companies to list all the ingredients included in their fragrances. The law exists in this way because companies claim that to list ingredients of their fragrances would expose proprietary formulas.
For this reason, it is not at all uncommon for products with fragrances to have literally dozens or even hundreds of risky and dangerous ingredients. Chemicals that the average person would never use on themselves can be in these personal care products and even if the products are listed as organic they could be problematic. Organic is good but when the product contains fragrances the ingredients in the product could be organic but the chemicals used to create the fragrance could be harmful and yet the company is not required to list those things on the label.
There are many products and companies out there that are making quality organic personal care items that can be safely used on babies. But it is important that parents be diligent in their pursuit to find and use products that are safe for babies. Because of certain laws making it easy for companies to hide some of their ingredients, parents will need to read up and understand what to look for to make certain that the product is not presenting itself as being safe when it isn’t.
